Overview

This year’s events will be held Saturday, Feb 2 - Sunday, Feb 4 in the Lake Placid area.

Tentative ski-o schedule:

Friday, Feb. 2, 5:00 pm – Score-O Under the Lights, Cascade Ski Center, 4833 Cascade Road, Lake Placid
Saturday, Feb. 1:00 pm – Combined Event, Day 1, Cascade Ski Center, Lake Placid
Sunday, Feb. 4, 10:00 am – Combined Event, Day 2, Scott’s Cobble Nordic Center, 141 Country Club Lane, Lake Placid

Friday’s Score-O will have a 1 hour time limit.
Saturday and Sunday’s will be regular ski-o races. The time limit will be 2 hours. Results from both days will be combined and medals awarded to the top combined finishers.

There will be no medals for each separate race.
All races will have pre-assigned start times.
All participants are eligible for Empire State Games medals.

The SI timing system will be used. All participants must use an SI timing card. SIAC (Air+) will be enabled but is not required. Regular SI timing cards will be available for rental through the online registration site and can be picked up in person at check-in on site. Rental cards will NOT be SIAC (Air+). Rental price is $5 per day with a $60 replacement cost if card is lost or not turned in.

Thanks to a generous grant from the Adirondack Foundation mapholders will be available free of charge to all participants 18 years of age and under. A limited number of mapholders will be available to participants older than 18 for rental at $10 per day or $25 for 3 events. These will be available on a first come, first served basis on site. Mapholders are available for purchase through a regular retailer of orienteering supplies.

There are embargoes on the following areas: Cascade Ski Center (entire trail system), Scott’s Cobble Nordic Center (entire trail system) and Mt. Van Hoevenberg (biathlon side only). Participants are prohibited from being in these areas anytime until the 2024 Empire State Games. A competitor racing in a regularly scheduled cross country or biathlon event may race in one of the specified areas before the ESGs but must stay on the official race course of their event.

In keeping with U.S.S.A and IOF regulations the use of fluoro waxes by all participants is prohibited.
