Saranac Lake’s Liam Stoddard Wins Boys ESWG Cross-Country Race
LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – Pepper Laxson and Cadence Kennedy, both of Bloomindale, N.Y., took two of the three podium spots from Sunday’s Empire State Winter Games’ Feb. 4, girls U14, 4.2-kilometer mass start cross-country race held in Lake Placid, N.Y.
The 13-year-old Laxson skied past seven other racers in her age group to win the 2.6-mile event in a time of 13 minutes, 17.7 seconds. Jordan Guidry, 13, of Old Forge, N.Y. finished the up and down Mt. Van Hoevenberg course in 13:31.4, while Kennedy, 13, claimed bronze with a time of 13:53.9.
Sunday proved to be the sunniest and coldest day of Nordic racing and the 10 skiers that made up the boys’ U14 field, that also raced 4.2-kilometers, took advantage of the ideal conditions. Liam Stoddard, 13, of Saranac Lake, N.Y., paced his age group, finishing first in 11:32.6. He held off 13-year-old Charles Hinsdill, of Remsen, N.Y., who finished second, in 12:20.3 and Colt Grimm, age 12. Grimm, from Pittsford, N.Y. clocked a time of 12:26.3.
