LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – Anissa Mamaev, representing the Skating Club of New York, skated to first place in the Juvenile Girls Figure Skating competition at the 43rd Empire State Winter Games Friday, Feb. 3, at the Olympic Center’s 1980 Herb Brooks Arena.
Mamaev started her program with a perfect score on her double flip, leading to a final score of 37.34 points. Her Skating Club of New York teammates, Hailey Marsar and Madison Lada, took second and third place, respectively. En route to the silver medal finish, Marsar successfully landed a difficult double jump combination, a double lutz and a single toe loop, finishing with a final score of 36.55.
Lada, who finished with 32.49 points, landed every element of her program, including her triple jump combination consisting of a single axel, double toe loop and single loop, earning her a spot on the podium.
The ESWG, sponsored by Community Bank, N.A., is the largest multi-winter amateur sports event in the United States. From Friday Feb. 3-Sunday, Feb. 5, close to 2,200 athletes are scheduled to compete in 23 winter sports in Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake and Paul Smiths.
