LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – Saugerties took home the gold in the Empire State Winter Games squirts championship game versus Massena, Sunday, Feb. 4, in Lake Placid, N.Y. Sean Bellarosa and Bryton King each scored in the second and third period, respectively, giving the Fillies the 2-0 win against the only team they lost to this weekend.
Saugerties began their weekend with a 3-1 win over Clifton Park, followed by a 4-2 loss against Massena on Friday. On Saturday, their 3-0 blanking of Watertown sent them to Sunday’s gold medal game.
Massena reached the medal game with a pair of Friday wins. They opened the tournament, shutting out Watertown 4-0, then handing Saugerties their only loss of the tournament.
Brooks Mills of Saugerties saved all 20 shots faced, preventing Massena from scoring in this rematch of Friday’s game. Parker Skaggs saved 16 of the 18 shots for Massena.
