NORTHWOOD’S MARSHALL & GORE’S BACHTA WIN EMPIRE STATE WINTER GAMES SLALOM GOLD MEDALS

WILMINGTON, N.Y. – Northwood School/NYSEF skier Hudson Marshall and Gore Mountain’s Ava Bachta each won gold medals during Sunday’s Feb. 2, Empire State Winter Games Alpine slalom race, held at Whiteface Mountain, in Wilmington.

Marshall won the men’s title when he skied past the field of 41 finishers in a two-run combined time of 1 minute, 31.89 seconds. Bachta finished ahead of the 39 women finishers in a total time of 1:35.66.

In the Alpine skiing slalom event, competitors rapidly maneuver through a series of gates. Participants completed two runs, and their final time is calculated as a combination of each. Sunday’s course on Draper’s Drop featured 59 gates and a vertical drop of 153-meters.

Michael Stevens, who skis for Snowmellow Alpine, claimed the men’s silver medal. He worked his way through the 59 race gates in 1:35.11, while Ryan Cain of Bristol Mountain finished third. Cain completed his day of racing with a total time of 1:37.03.

Jane Rathbun of Hilimont Ski Resort was Sunday’s Women’s silver medalist. She completed her two runs in a total time of 1:37.29. The bronze medal was awarded to Mala Brumm. The West Mountain skier finished her two race runs in 1:38.70.
