The Games

The Empire State Winter Games (ESWG) is a community-driven event that celebrates athletes, winter, and the Adirondacks. With three days of competitions, an opening ceremony, and a 700-mile torch relay, the ESWG is a destination event for the whole family!

From Thursday – Sunday, athletes from ages 8-80 will compete in 16 winter sports, including sliding sports, figure skating, sled hockey, curling, bobsledding, cross country skiing and more!

The Torch Relay kicks off the week before the opening ceremony. There are two legs of the relay, one starting from Buffalo and the other from New York City. The two routes will culminate in Lake Placid for the opening ceremony, where the athlete of the year will light the cauldron to kick off the Games.

More information will be available as we prepare for the 2026 Games!
