LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — The 2026 USAT Winter Triathlon National Championships will be held as part of the 46th annual Empire State Winter Games, taking place Feb. 5–8, 2026, in Lake Placid and the surrounding region. Both the triathlon and duathlon are slated for Feb. 6, on Mt. Van Hoevenberg’s Nordic trails.
“We’re thrilled to partner with USA Triathlon to bring the 2026 USA Triathlon Winter National Championship to Lake Placid as part of February’s Empire State Winter Games,” said Karlan Jessen, Adirondack Sports Council (ADKSC) executive director. “This collaboration celebrates the spirit of winter sports and showcases Lake Placid’s legacy as a premier destination for winter triathletes and multisport enthusiasts from across the country.”
Competitors will race on the world-class Nordic trail system at Mt. Van Hoevenberg, the same system that has trained several members of the U.S. Nordic team that will compete in the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games, that also played host to the 2023 FISU World University Nordic events and will be the site of the March 19-22, 2026 FIS Cross-Country World Cup finals. The national championship event combines endurance and grit, while testing each athlete’s limits and endurance. The triathlon consists of three legs: a 5k run, followed by an 8k fat tire bike, and 10k cross-country ski. The duathlon features a 5k run and concludes with a 10k cross-country ski.
“USA Triathlon is thrilled to bring the 2026 Winter Triathlon National Championships to the iconic trails of Mt. Van Hoevenberg and Lake Placid,” added Victoria Brumfield, USA Triathlon CEO. “This world-class destination is the perfect stage for athletes to push their limits and try a new, fun multisport format. We can’t wait for athletes to experience the magic of racing on these legendary trails.”
