LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The undefeated Malone Junior Huskies took on the Saugerties Mustangs Sunday, Feb. 5, on the USA Rink at the Lake Placid Olympic Center, winning the 2023 Empire State Winter Games boy’s 10U Excelsior Division championship match 4-3.
Sunday’s victory for the Junior Huskies follows another narrow (7-6) win versus the Mustangs on Saturday at the Saranac Lake Civic Center.
Malone forward Colton Laplant certainly helped with the team’s win. Laplant scored two unassisted goals in the third period following an assist in the second. Also scoring for the Junior Huskies were Bryce Bero and Lincoln Ashline.
In a tight third period, Jamie Crowley and Luke Hulbert from Saugerties kept their team in the game, answering to each of Malone’s goals in the final ten minutes of the game.
En route to the gold medal, Malone posted a 4-0-1 record.
