46th Annual Empire State Winter Games Scheduled for February 5-8, 2026 in Lake Placid and Surrounding North Country Region

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The 46th annual Empire State Winter Games is set to bring an estimated 2,300 athletes, ages eight to 80, to the Adirondacks, Feb. 5–8, 2026, for four days of competition in 20 winter sports. Lake Placid and surrounding communities will host a record-breaking lineup, including 38 boys’ and girls’ hockey teams from New York, New Hampshire, and Vermont, and an unprecedented 832 figure skaters, making this year’s event the largest in its history.
“Welcoming so many hockey players and figure skaters from across the Northeast is exciting for everyone involved,” said Adirondack Sports Council executive director Karlan Jessen. “These athletes represent the heart of the Empire State Winter Games, and their participation and energy will elevate the competition and the community experience.”
Eight all-girls’ teams (12U and 14U), 18 boys’ 12U, and 12 10U co-ed teams hit the ice Thursday, Feb. 5, with championship games set for Sunday, Feb. 8. The tournament games will take place in Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, and Tupper Lake.
The figure skating competitions run Friday through Sunday at the Lake Placid Olympic Center, inside the 1980 Herb Brooks Arena and 1932 Jack Shea Arena.
In addition to hockey and figure skating, this year’s Empire State Winter Games will also include the new sport of bowling, being held at Lucky Strike Lanes in Malone. Other winter sports include Adaptive sports, Alpine and Nordic Skiing, curling, luge, skeleton, long-track and short-track speed skating, ski jumping and Nordic combined, ski and snowboard cross, ski orienteering, and the 2026 USAT Winter Triathlon National Championships.
